Controversial Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Takes to Twitter to Counter Critics
Saturday, May 1st, 2010
I’ve already mentioned that blogs can be used as powerful tools to decry a social issue or start a Bolivarian revolution. This week Hugo Chavez, controversial socialist president of Venezuela, took to the blogosphere with a Twitter account called chavezcandanga. “Candanga” roughly translates to “devil.”
With only two tweets so far, he doesn’t have as many followers as Ashton Kutcher but he’s off to a good start. According to the AP, Chavez plans to use the Twitter to counter his online critics.

An elementary school teacher who forgot her lunch one day was forced to eat what the kids eat in the cafeteria. Yuck!
What ensued was a day by day blogging crusade of every food served in the cafeteria in 2010 to raise awareness for inadequate nutrition in school lunches. In a matter of months “Mrs. Q” (the alias for the undercover eater) managed to attract an audience of over 3,000 followers to her “Fed Up With Lunch” Google Blogger blog and got her story heard on ABC’s Good Morning America.
Now that says something about the power of wee little blogs to raise awareness for social issues.
