Red Flag SEO-Provider Signs to watch out for
It is a rather unfortunate set of circumstances to say the least but there is little use in denying the fact that many SEO ‘professionals’ these days hardly measure up to such a title to say the very least. Well, either they don’t measure up or they simply choose to go down their own SEO route knowing full well that the result will be far from in the favor of the client. Not only does the result of such questionable SEO techniques and tactics have the potential to result in a rather unfortunate waste of money, but it could also rather easily seen the business of the client in question suffer reputation and standing damage for the long term.
What makes the problem a truly hideous one is the fact that the vast majority of those who find themselves face to face with a questionable SEO provider or strategy are those who are either new to the world of business or still finding their feet. Needless to say, it is these small to medium businesses that have the most to gain and indeed the most to lose, as the SEO strategy itself could well be the turning point in a common make or break situation. Unfortunately, while ever there is a market available to exploit, some will indeed make it their life’s work to do exactly that, lounging on their leather sleeper while the business they were to help now falls to the ground.
Nevertheless, there are at least a few danger signs when looking into an SEO provider that should immediately see a red flag raised, without having to already be well versed in the SEO industry or even understand more than the very basics.
01 – Promises of the World
Without a shadow of a doubt, the most widespread and easy to find red flag warning is that of providers who clearly promise more than they can deliver. This is not something that has to be evaluated on a case by case basis but is instead a rule of thumb, as there are certain things even the best SEO cannot bring. The most common example of this is providers promising the top spot in Google or any specific numbered ranking toward the top of the list, as such promises are simply 100% impossible to keep. The state of play of SEO is constantly changing and the provider must accept and demonstrate their knowledge of this before any investment be made.
02 – Overnight Results
Any person with even the most fundamentally basic knowledge of how SEO works will know that the one thing it is not is a fast process capable of delivering immediate results. Instead, SEO must be given extensive periods of time to reach fruition and deliver long term results from what should be a long term strategy. Those offering overnight glory and immediate returns either have no intention of providing them, or intend to use none-SEO strategies that may prove enormously dangerous.
03 – Up Front Payment
SEO is a long term strategy and any business looking to make a long term improvement to their own operations should expect a contract of at least several months. Likewise, the client can also expect something of an installment based contract, as is the standard practice with lengthy buyer agreements. Should a provider require several months or even a year’s payment in advance, alarm bells should begin ringing without question.
04 – Free Trials
Free trials are some of the greatest and most valuable services any provider can offer, but should never be taken without caution. Before an official contract has been struck and signed with all the relevant legalities and so on, it is essential never to give out usernames, passwords and so on to the site in question. Without first establishing safety, doing so would be a little like handing over the home and car keys to a stranger.
