Create a blog to decry a social issue or start a Bolivarian Revolution
An elementary school teacher who forgot her lunch one day was forced to eat what the kids eat in the cafeteria. Yuck!
What ensued was a day by day blogging crusade of every food served in the cafeteria in 2010 to raise awareness for inadequate nutrition in school lunches. In a matter of months “Mrs. Q” (the alias for the undercover eater) managed to attract an audience of over 3,000 followers to her “Fed Up With Lunch” Google Blogger blog and got her story heard on ABC’s Good Morning America.
Now that says something about the power of wee little blogs to raise awareness for social issues.
Also in the news is President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela who, after imposing a socialist Bolivarian Revolution, announced he would be blogging to counteract his political dissidents on the web.
“There have been counter-revolutions and coups organised on the Web,” Chavez said. “We have to be ready to counter the counter-revolutions. All this is part of the battle of socialism against capitalism.”
Well, there you have it folks. If you ever want to decry poor cafeteria food in public schools or create a socialist revolution, start a blog. Be sure to read the blogging 101 section of this site before you do!
